"Being a school board member in the city where you grew up and went to school is something special.  It gives you the opportunity to give back to your community.  Certainly you are not giving back to the same individuals who held this position in your school years, but we are paying back the commitment those individuals gave to the same community.  Someone once said, "It is hard to be a prophet in your own land."  Being local brings on its own special set of dilemmas,  In the end; if your decisions are driven by what you think is right for your students, staff and community, your decision may be questioned, but your intent should be evident.

I am lucky to sit on a board where respect for each other is at the forefront.  We may disagree at times, but disagreements are not taken as a personal attack.  Disagreements are looked at as another person's opinion based on their own beliefs and values.  What would life be if we agreed on everything?  Sitting on a board can be trying at times, and some decisions are harder than others, but we will continue to strive to do things right while never forgetting to do the right  thing."
