Cameron County Consolidation Approval

ORDER DECLARING RESULTS OF ELECTION AND CONSOLIDATING DISTRICTS

 

THE STATE OF TEXAS

COUNTY OF CAMERON

 

            On this 27th day of July, 1970, the Commissioners’ Court of Cameron County, State of Texas, convened in Special Session at its regular meeting place in the Cameron County Courthouse in Brownsville, Texas, with the following members present, to wit:

 

  • Oscar C. Dancy, County Judge
  • H. Hunt, Commissioner, Precinct No. 1
  • Johnny N. Cavazos, Commissioner, Precinct No. 2
  • Adolph Thomae Jr., Commissioner, Precinct No. 3
  • Guy Leggett Sr., Commissioner, Precinct No. 4

 

And the following absent: None

 

Constituting a quorum, and among other proceedings had by said Commissioners’ Court were the following:

 

            There came on to be considered the returns of the consolidation election held on the 25th day of July 1970, in the following School Districts:

 

Olmito Independent School District, and
Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District

 

The returns having been duly canvassed and it appearing and is so found that the petitions requesting said election and the other calling said election was in all respects in conformity with the laws of the State of Texas, and that said returns were duly and legally made, and that there were cast at said election the following legal votes in each of said respective districts, to-wit:

 

  • Olmito Independent School District:
    • “For Consolidation” 113 votes
    • “Against Consolidation” 84 votes 
  • Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District:
    • “For Consolidation” 86 votes
    • “Against Consolidation” 23 votes 

IT IS, THEREFORE, FOUND, DECLARED AND SO ORDERED, by the Commissioners’ Court of Cameron County, Texas, that a majority of the qualified voters of each of said School Districts voted for the consolidation of said School Districts for school purposes.

 

            Said above-named School Districts are hereby ordered consolidated for school purposes and shall hereinafter be known as Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District, and the boundaries of said School District are described by metes and bounds on the attached Exhibit “A” and said Exhibit “A” is part of this order for all intents and purposes.

 

The above order being read, it was moved and seconded that same do pass. Thereupon, the question being called for, the following members of the Court voted AYE: T.H. Hunt, Johnny N. Cavazos, Adolph Thomae Jr., and Guy Leggett Sr. and the following voted NO: None.

PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, this 27th day of July 1970.
