History of Schools

The first school in Los Fresnos opened in 1915.

The following is a historical description of all Los Fresnos CISD schools in chronological order.

Los Fresnos Elementary: 1947

The school is co-located in the same area as Resaca Middle School, Los Cuates Middle School and Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium. It should be noted that the Training Center or Board Room as well as the College Career and Technology Academy (CCTA) building formerly known as the Primary building are also located in the same area as the campus.

Phase I – 1947: Old Gymnasium which later became Shipping and Receiving and is now used in part for pre-auction storage and in part for the campus Music program.
Phase II – 1951: Main building
Phase III – 1967: Special Education building
Phase IV – 1995: Mini-Gymnasium

There are three portable buildings located on the campus. Other buildings in the area include the College, Career and Technology Academy (CCTA), Board Room/Training Center, and Warehouse storage space.

Resaca Middle School, 1955

Villareal Elementary, 1955

Las Yescas Elementary, 1956

(Previously was Cameron County School District #10 until it was consolidated with Los Fresnos CISD on Sept. 1, 1972)

Phase III – 2004: Classroom and library addition
There are also currently three portables located at the site. There is also a metal building and a brick building located on the north side used for storage.

Los Cuates Middle School: 1962

The building was Los Fresnos High School until 1985 when the new high school was built on Arroyo Boulevard. It was then re-named and became Los Cuates Middle School.

Dora Romero Elementary: 2010

Disciplinary Alternative Education Program: 1955
(Former Administration Building)

The permanent building was originally the district administration building, housing the Superintendent and other offices. The administration building moved to the current District Service Center location on Mesquite Street in 1993.

There are six other buildings on the property. It shares the compound space with Transportation, Facilities, Central Receiving, and Child Nutrition facilities.

Auxiliary Operations Center: 1994
The Auxiliary Operations Center is approximately 18.9 acres of property that includes the facilities for the following operations:

Maintenance, Spaces for covered parking, warehouse storage, employee break room, materials storage rooms
- Original building built 1994
- Administration building addition built 2000
- Old bus barn, now used for grounds, welding, etc.
Transportation, Bus barn, parts room and offices.
- Original building built in 1990.
- Newer administration building w/ training room built 2013
- Two sets of portables; one double and one single.
Shipping and Receiving built 2013.
Child Nutrition Services built 1990.

Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium: 1985

This does not include the parking lot to the north.

Phase I – 1985: Stadium and main structures, concession stands/restrooms.
Phase II – 1999: Press Box (home side)
Phase III – 2015: Sod field replaced by artificial turf installed by Hellas
Phase IV – 2017: Coaches' Box (visitor side)

There is also a parking lot on the north side of the stadium.
