The Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District is one of the strongest academic school districts in South Texas and among the best in Texas.
Los Fresnos CISD students, especially those who are economically disadvantaged, have consistently outperformed the state and regional averages. The Board of Trustees, administration, and staff are committed to making Los Fresnos CISD one of the top districts in the state.
In February 2020, Los Fresnos CISD was named a recipient of the 2020 College Board Advanced Placement District of the Year as the national leader among medium-sized school districts — defined as having between 8,000 and 49,999 students. The award is given to three school districts annually who expanded access to Advanced Placement Program courses while simultaneously improving AP Exam performance – particularly for traditionally underrepresented minority students.
In 2019, Los Fresnos was named an “A” rated district by the Texas Education Agency for the second straight year, or since the inception of the award. Los Fresnos CISD, which is the only district in Cameron County to earn the “A” rating two straight years, scored a 90 on student achievement, 93 on school progress, and 96 on closing the achievement gaps for a grade of 94.
Also in 2019, Los Fresnos CISD was named to the elite group of only five school districts in Texas to earn the postsecondary readiness distinction designation for the sixth straight year by the TEA. All District campuses received a “Met Standard” rating and numerous distinctions including the Post-Secondary Readiness Distinction – a measure that looks at how schools are preparing students with college and career-readiness skills.
