Los Fresnos CISD 2026-2027 Teachers of the Year

The Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District has announced its 2026–2027 Elementary and Secondary District Teachers of the Year, recognizing two outstanding educators whose dedication continues to make a lasting impact on students across the district.

Ms. Iracema Lopez of Las Yescas Elementary has been named the Elementary District Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Traci Blackman of Los Fresnos High School has been named the Secondary District Teacher of the Year.

The winners were selected from a pool of campus Teachers of the Year through a competitive process that included essays submitted by campus principals and reviewed by a district-level committee. These essays highlighted the powerful and meaningful ways each educator impacts students’ lives every day.

Elementary District Teacher of the Year: Iracema Lopez

For 14 years, Ms. Iracema Lopez has dedicated her career to serving the students and families of Las Yescas Elementary. As a third-grade teacher, she goes far beyond delivering instruction—she shapes lives, nurtures aspirations, and creates a classroom environment where every child feels valued and supported.

Ms. Lopez creates a classroom that is not only a place of learning but also a source of stability and encouragement. For many of her students, she is more than a teacher—she is a trusted mentor and a steady, reassuring presence.

Ms. Lopez exemplifies leadership through her unwavering commitment to student success. She carefully analyzes student data to ensure no child is overlooked, using that insight to close learning gaps and help each student reach their full potential. Her dedication extends beyond academics as she works to build confidence and resilience in every learner.

A servant leader among her peers, Ms. Lopez supports colleagues and fosters a positive, collaborative environment on campus. Her commitment to wellness and community is evident in her efforts outside the classroom, including hosting early morning virtual fitness sessions for staff and sponsoring the school’s running club, where students build perseverance and pride through achievement.

Secondary District Teacher of the Year: Traci Blackman

Mrs. Traci Blackman of Los Fresnos High School has been named the Secondary District Teacher of the Year for her outstanding commitment to student success and instructional excellence. She creates a classroom environment where students feel supported, challenged, and motivated to achieve their best.

Known for her engaging and adaptable teaching style, Mrs. Blackman meets the needs of diverse learners while fostering strong relationships built on trust and respect. Her ability to connect with students encourages both academic growth and personal development.

Beyond the classroom, she is a collaborative leader who supports her colleagues and contributes to a positive campus culture. Mrs. Blackman also emphasizes critical thinking, responsibility, and perseverance, helping prepare her students for success beyond high school. Her dedication and impact make her truly deserving of this honor.

Both Ms. Lopez and Mrs. Blackman will go on to represent Los Fresnos CISD at the Region I Teacher of the Year competition, where they will compete alongside other top educators from across the region.
