Los Fresnos CISD proudly celebrates Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month throughout the month of February, recognizing the impact CTE programs have on preparing students for future success in college, careers, and beyond.
Career and Technical Education directly prepares students for high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand careers by combining rigorous academics with hands-on technical training and employability skills. Through real-world learning experiences, students develop the knowledge and confidence needed to graduate truly career ready.
CTE also provides students with opportunities to explore career options earlier in their educational journey, allowing them to make informed decisions about coursework while following clearly defined programs of study aligned to workforce and post-secondary expectations.
Expanding Opportunities Through Innovative Facilities
This year marks a major milestone for Los Fresnos CISD with the opening of a brand-new Career and Technical Education Center, a transformative investment designed to elevate student learning and workforce readiness.
The new CTE Center features:
- A modern agriculture barn that supports hands-on learning in animal science, agricultural mechanics, and leadership development
- Newly constructed buildings for manual trades, providing students with industry-aligned training environments
- A state-of-the-art culinary arts kitchen, equipped to mirror professional food service and hospitality settings
- Advanced health science laboratories, offering students experiential learning opportunities that reflect real healthcare environments
These purpose-built spaces allow students to train using current industry equipment and practices, ensuring a seamless transition from the classroom to the workforce or post-secondary education.
“These new facilities represent a significant step forward in how we prepare students for the future,” said Rolando Guerra, CTE Director for Los Fresnos CISD. “Our CTE Center was designed to give students authentic, hands-on experiences that align with industry standards while opening doors to certifications, college pathways, and meaningful careers.”
Diverse Pathways, Dual Enrollment, and Industry Credentials
Los Fresnos CISD offers a wide range of CTE opportunities to meet student interests and regional workforce needs, including:
- 19 Programs of Study
- 42 Industry-Based Certifications
- 12 Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)
In addition, Los Fresnos CISD CTE proudly offers dual enrollment opportunities that allow students to earn college credit while still in high school. Through partnerships with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) and Texas Southmost College (TSC), students can participate in the following dual enrollment pathways:
- TSTC: Carpentry and Mechatronics
- TSC: Welding and Electrical
These dual enrollment programs provide students with a head start on post-secondary education, hands-on technical training, and valuable credentials that support both immediate workforce entry and continued college success.
Throughout CTE Month, Los Fresnos CISD will highlight student achievements and showcase how its CTE programs are developing skilled, confident, and career-ready individuals prepared to succeed in an ever-evolving workforce.
