Los Fresnos CISD announces Mrs. Edna Hernandez as the new Principal of Laureles Elementary School. Her path to campus leadership has been shaped not only by her classroom and instructional experience, but also by meaningful professional development opportunities within the district.
Mrs. Hernandez is currently participating in the Holdsworth Campus Leadership Program, a two-year experience focused on strengthening leadership skills and building strong campus systems. Working closely with the Laureles leadership team, she has contributed to ongoing improvements in instructional support and student learning. She also completed the district’s Aspiring Principal Fellowship, where she refined her leadership approach and gained valuable mentorship from campus and district leaders.
“The Aspiring Principal Fellowship helped me understand what it truly means to live our Profile of a Leader,” she says. “It encouraged me to be more intentional and aligned in the way I serve our students and campus community.”
Mrs. Hernandez began her career in public education in 2011 and joined Los Fresnos CISD in 2022. She has served as a 5th Grade Bilingual Teacher, Kindergarten Dual Language Teacher, Middle School CTE Teacher, Instructional Officer, Instructional Coach, and Lead Teacher.
She earned her Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Bilingual Education from The University of Texas at Brownsville and her Master of Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Math and Science from UTRGV.
As a proud mother of three children—two of whom currently attend LFCISD—Mrs. Hernandez brings both a parent’s and an educator’s perspective to her role. She is also married a fellow educational leader within our district, who shares the same core values that guide the LFCISD community.
“My goal is to ensure Laureles Elementary remains a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for every student, staff member, and family,” she said. “When we work together and stay focused on what matters most, our students benefit.”
Mrs. Hernandez looks forward to continuing her service at Laureles Elementary and leading the campus with a focus on growth, collaboration, and strong relationships.
