After last season, our 2025 Falcon Varsity Football Team set their sights even higher—committing to take on anything, anytime, anywhere. From the moment they returned to campus last December, this team dedicated themselves to hard work, discipline, and a shared mission to leave a lasting legacy.
That commitment paid off. The Falcons soared to a 10-0 regular season, earning the title of #1-ranked 5A/6A team in the Rio Grande Valley and securing back-to-back 32-6A District Championships—a first in a decade.
The Falcons went on to earn the Bi-District Championship outscoring the Edinburg Economedes Jaguars in the first game of their playoff run 35-10.
But beyond the wins, this team proved that character and sportsmanship define true success—earning recognition for their conduct on the field, maintaining 100% academic eligibility, and embracing the “Coaching to Save Lives” program to build leadership and integrity
Offensive Player Spotlight: Robert Pineda – Quarterback, #2
Senior quarterback Robert Pineda has led the Los Fresnos Falcons to a season for the record books, guiding the team to its first 10-0 regular season since 2008. Known across the Rio Grande Valley as one of the most dynamic high school football players in the Class of 2025, Robert’s combination of athletic ability, leadership, and work ethic has set a new standard for excellence.
Throughout his career, Robert has recorded 32 varsity wins as a starting quarterback and an astonishing 130 total touchdowns — 72 through the air and 58 on the ground. With over 10,000 total yards (6,234 passing and 3,929 rushing), his impact on the field is undeniable. A four-year letterman and three-year varsity captain, Robert was also named the 32-6A Most Valuable Player and was a finalist for RGV Player of the Year in 2024.
Beyond his record-breaking numbers, what truly makes Robert special is his character. He’s known for his consistency, maintaining perfect attendance every year, and his determination, leading multiple fourth-quarter comebacks throughout his career. Coaches and teammates describe him as hardworking — someone who never takes a day off — and humble, always the first to credit his teammates and coaches for the team’s success. Most importantly, Robert takes great pride in representing the Los Fresnos community and the people who have supported him every step of the way.
Defensive Player Spotlight: Juan Sanchez – Linebacker, #0
Senior linebacker Juan Sanchez has been the heart and soul of the Falcon defense, helping propel Los Fresnos to its historic 10-0 season. Widely regarded as one of the top defensive players in the Rio Grande Valley, Juan’s leadership, toughness, and relentless drive have made him a cornerstone of the program’s success.
Over his four-year varsity career, Juan has tallied 316 total tackles, including 111 solo stops and 14.5 tackles for loss. He’s also caused or recovered five turnovers, highlighted by a 95-yard interception return in overtime that sealed a game-winning touchdown earlier this season — a play that perfectly captures his clutch performance under pressure. Juan has earned 33 varsity wins as a starting inside linebacker, is a four-year letterman, a three-year varsity captain, and has been recognized twice this season as the RGV Sports Defensive Player of the Week.
While his stats are impressive, Juan’s true strength lies in his mindset. He is consistent, maintaining a positive attitude on and off the field, and driven, always finding another level when the game is on the line. A hard worker who has competed in track all four years — despite not being “a track guy” — Juan continually pushes himself to improve. Known for his modesty, he stays focused on the team’s success rather than his own accolades. Above all, Juan feels deeply honored to represent the Los Fresnos community and wear the Falcon uniform with pride.
