The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has awarded the Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District (LFCISD) the Learning Acceleration Support Opportunities (LASO) Cycle 3 – Strong Foundations planning grant in the amount of $180,000. This funding will support the district’s implementation of the Bluebonnet Math resource for grades 4–8 in the upcoming school year.
Dr. Jennifer Stumbaugh, Chief Academic Officer for the district, highlighted the grant’s importance, stating, “The funding will ensure our teachers are supported and our students are receiving rigorous math instruction that prepares them to be college and career ready.”
To officially receive the award, Los Fresnos CISD must complete the eGrants application. Once the application is approved, the district will receive the official award letter, or Notice of Grant Award (NOGA), confirming the funding and outlining the next steps.
“This grant is a game-changer for our district. It will allow us to equip our teachers with the tools they need to offer high-quality math education, ensuring our students are prepared for their future success in both college and careers,” said Dr. Gonzalo Salazar, Superintendent of Los Fresnos CISD.
With a focus on grades 4–8, the grant will provide crucial resources for Bluebonnet Math, which aims to strengthen math instruction and better prepare students for academic challenges ahead. This funding is an essential part of the district’s ongoing commitment to providing a rigorous, equitable education for all students.
The $180,000 LASO grant will enable Los Fresnos CISD to continue its mission of academic excellence and innovation. As the district looks forward to the next school year, the partnership with TEA and the investment in advanced math resources will contribute to an even stronger foundation for students' long-term academic success. With these improvements, Los Fresnos CISD is poised to make significant strides in math education and further support its students on their paths to college and career readiness.
