Los Fresnos CISD Welcomes Principals for 2024-2025 School Year

The Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District announces new principals at three campuses for the 2024-2025 school year. The team, which collectively has a wealth experience in education, will lead the campuses of Dora Romero, Lopez-Riggins, and Villareal elementary schools. The candidates were recommended by district administration and approved by the Board of Trustees during the regularly scheduled June meeting. Right now, they are currently in the process of transitioning to their respective campus and look forward to serving the students and families of Los Fresnos and surrounding communities. Please help us welcome the following principals:

 

Dora Romero Elementary School

Holly Maldonado, Principal

Holly Maldonado will serve the students at Dora Romero Elementary as Principal for the 2024-2025 school year.  She has been part of the Los Fresnos CISD family since 2004.  During her career in public education, she has served as an elementary teacher, middle school science teacher, district-level strategist, and dean of instruction.  She has also acted as administrator in charge within elementary campus teams.  Mrs. Maldonado looks forward to sharing her passion in making a difference for others with the students, staff, and families of Dora Romero Elementary. 

Mrs. Maldonado received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Graceland University, her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Texas at Brownsville, and her Certificate in Principal Education from Lamar University. 

 

Lopez-Riggins Elementary School

Principal: Sharon Snodgrass

Ms. Sharon Snodgrass will serve the students at Lopez-Riggins Elementary School as Principal for the 2024-2025 school year. Ms. Snodgrass marks her twenty-eighth year in public education with the move to Lopez-Riggins from Villareal Elementary, where she spent the last two years as principal.  Prior to that, she spent five years as an Assistant Principal-Instructional Officer at Villareal and Palmer-Laakso Elementaries. She spent twenty years serving as a teacher for elementary students in third and fifth grades.

Ms. Snodgrass holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and Principal certificate.

 

Villareal Elementary School

Ana Fernandez, Principal

Ana M. Fernandez will serve the students at Villareal Elementary as principal for the 2024-2025 school year.  She has been part of the Los Fresnos CISD family since 2015. Her career in public education began in 2013. She has been a special education teacher, dean of instruction, and most recently assistant principal for Olmito Elementary. Ms. Fernandez is excited to serve students and families in this new role.  She is honored to work alongside dedicated educators and staff to foster student success and growth in the classroom.

Ms. Fernandez received her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies Degree from the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2012 and a Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2016.
