Los Fresnos, June 1, 2022-The Texas Association of School Administrators announced on June 1st that Dr. Gonzalo Salazar, Superintendent of Los Fresnos CISD, assumes the role of President for the 2022-2023 school year. Dr. Salazar has been a proud member of TASA for 16 years, serving in various leadership roles before being elected as President by peers from across the state. He will be part of a team of officers that oversee the TASA Executive Committee, which ratified the election in which Salazar was chosen to serve the one-year term on March 23, 2022.
Dr. Salazar, who has served as Superintendent since 2006, says being a member of TASA has provided professional opportunities that have allowed him to proudly be a part of shaping the landscape of Texas education. “It is the convening of school leaders for the sole purpose of exchanging best practices and leveraging our network for the benefit of the students we serve,” said Dr. Salazar. Salazar was a member of the inaugural cohort of the Future Ready Leaders Institute. Additionally, he has represented Region I on the TASA Executive Committee for 12 years, He has represented the Region One Service Area on Commissioner’s Cabinet of Superintendents served on the Legislative Council and most recently as co-chair of the Race, Equity, and Diversity Committee.
Dr. Salazar believes that success in the classroom starts with great teachers that are supported by strong leadership, a vision that falls in line with the mission of TASA. “Leadership is important and matters at all levels of the school system. TASA is an organization that exists to develop leaders in public education through professional learning and growth opportunities,” said Gonzalo Salazar, Los Fresnos CISD Superintendent. Salazar says he is grateful for the diverse opportunities being a member of TASA has yielded for Los Fresnos students.
This year, Dr. Salazar says he looks forward serving with TASA officers and staff, representing the organization and Los Fresnos CISD at various state-level engagements.
