Los Fresnos CISD Conjunto Groups Win Big at Valley Wide Competition

The Los Fresnos CISD Conjunto programs that are bringing big awards back to their campuses! The four groups participated in the Texas Best Conjunto Competition and Student Showcase on Saturday, April 8 at the Texas Southmost College Jacob Brown Auditorium. The event, hosted by La Cultura Vive en Brownsville, features elementary, middle, and high school students from across the Rio Grande Valley.

Los Fresnos CISD groups include an elementary program that is based at Los Fresnos Elementary School (LFE) under the direction of Santiago Castillo.

The Conjunto Halcon program has been is in its’ ninth year and is made up of students from both Los Fresnos High School and Los Fresnos United. There is a beginner group (LFU/LFHS), and JV and Varsity groups (LFHS). They are under the direction of Juan Longoria, Jr. and Romulo Longoria, III

The following are the results: · Los Fresnos Elementary School (LFE) Conjunto:

-1st Place – Elementary & Middle School Division

· Conjunto Halcon:

-1st Place – Varsity Group

-3rd Place – Junior Varsity Group

-Beginner Group – 2nd Place

Individual awards were earned in the following categories:

· Best Vocalist: Manuel Tovar

· Best Bajo Quinto: Ricardo Espinoza

· Best Bass Player: Iliana Aguilar
