Child Nutrition Services Rolls Out Food Truck During Child Nutrition Month

Child Nutrition Services (CNS) is looking to drive student appetites in the right direction by serving up tasty and well-balanced meals with a unique spin.

This week, one of the team’s two food trucks rolled up to Olmito Elementary School (OES) to serve up a tasty and fun experience for students to finish out Child Nutrition Month.  It’s part of an ongoing strategy that the CNS is cooking up with Southwest Food Service Excellence, a food management company that the district has partnered with for 5 years.

CNS and SFE have worked together to serve 14,000 breakfast and lunch meals weekly within the district.  Their coordination and preparation of menus ensures that USDA federal guidelines for school-aged children are met.  That includes a daily balanced menu of protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and dairy.  Their new approach to engaging and educating children on the importance of making healthy food choices includes the implementation of the food trucks, barbecues, themed weeks, and music.  The result is elevated school food that meets the needs of our students, brings the flavor, and is served in fun and innovative ways!
