Texas families who relied on the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) card, which previously provided a one-time benefit of $285 for students receiving free and reduced-price meals, can apply for another round of food aid for the 2021-22 school year.
The application opens on Wednesday, June 2.
PEBT provides food benefits to families with enrolled students up to 21 years of age who temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals for the 2020–2021 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The deadline to apply is August 13, 2021. If anyone has any questions they may contact the Los Fresnos CISD Child Nutrition Office at 254-5055 during normal school business hours or call the P-EBT Call Center at 833-442-1255, Monday through Friday 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Central time.
The federal benefit helps provide for the approximately 3.7 million eligible, low-income children in Texas who lost access to free and reduced-cost meals when schools first shut down during the pandemic. This time, the benefit could provide up to $1,200 per student, depending on the number of days most students at their school received remote instruction during the past school year.
