Classes to begin Sept. 8 under new calendar

Los Fresnos CISD students will begin the school year on Tuesday, Sept. 8, under a modified academic calendar approved by the Board of Trustees on July 13.
 
The first four weeks of classes will be entire virtual Learning from Home instruction. Parents have the option of sending their children to school for the second four-week period. Decisions beyond the first eight weeks of classes have not been determined.

The Corona-19 pandemic has affected educational calendars all over the country as districts prepare for a school year to keep students as safe as possible.

Previously, the school year was to begin Wednesday, August 12.

Teachers will now take part in professional learning during the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 3. Friday, Sept. 4, and Monday, Sept. 7 has been designated as Teacher Preparation Days.

The last day of classes is now scheduled Thursday, June 17.
