Elementary Schools
Los Fresnos CISD is home to nine elementary schools which have proven academic success for many years with numerous state and national awards.
More than 4,100 elementary school students are enrolled in grades from Pre-Kindergarten to 5. Los Fresnos CISD began offering full-day Pre-Kindergarten in 2020.
Project Lead the Way, a nationally acclaimed STEM program, is offered at all nine schools for students in grades K-5. All nine elementary schools are designated PLTW Project Launch Distinguished Schools for two straight years. Only 14 schools nationally have received that recognition. There are coding labs at each elementary school to boost STEM education.
Elementary schools have received numerous awards. Almost all campuses have received perfect scores in the Texas Education Agency Postsecondary Readiness Distinction awards since the honors began in 2014. In addition, two schools – Olmito Elementary and Rancho Verde Elementary – have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education.
Middle Schools
Los Fresnos CISD is home to three middle schools whose academic achievements have been recognized by the Texas Education Agency.
More than 2,400 students are enrolled in grades 6 to 8. All middle schools feature the district’s Secondary Gifted and Talented Program. Key components include a Distinguished Achievement Plan, Pre-Advanced AP Plan, Advanced Placement plan and Dual Enrollment in conjunction with Texas State Technical College.
Campuses have received perfect scores in the Texas Education Agency Postsecondary Readiness Distinction awards since the honors began in 2014. Resaca Middle Schools received the Leader in Met grant in 2017. Resaca Takes Best in Nation Award for Innovative Hello Navi App in the Verizon Innovative App Challenge in 2014. Students were invited to attend the White House Science and met President Barack Obama.
High School
Los Fresnos High School is actually one school with two campuses. Los Fresnos High School serves students in grades 11 and 12 and Los Fresnos United serves students in Grades 9 and 10.
Los Fresnos CISD received the 2020 College Board Advanced Placement (AP) District of the Year for mid-sized school districts in 2020. The award is given to three school districts annually for the achievements by their high school students who expanded access to AP courses while simultaneously improving AP Exam performance – particularly for traditionally underrepresented minority students. LFHS is also a past recipient of the Gaston Caperton Award by the College Board
Students graduating in the LFHS Classes of 2018, 2019 and 2020 are attending Ivy League schools Columbia, Harvard, Princeton and Yale and also attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There have been numerous Gates Scholars, AP Scholars and National Hispanic Scholars.
