Recycling Program

Updated 1/17/17
What is recycling?- The US Environmental Protection Agency otherwise known as the EPA adopted the National Recycling Coalition's definition of recycling: "the series of activities by which materials that are no longer useful to the generator are collected, sorted, processed, and converted into raw materials and used in the production of new products."

October 2014 LFCISD engaged in a pilot project for 10 months with Redfish Recycling involving three campuses- Olmito, Villareal and Rancho Verde Elementary.  The results were phenomenal- over 20 tons of recyclable materials collected  in 10 months!  The beauty of this recycling program is simplicity and an added benefit is that it reduces the Districts costs for trash collection.  The following are links to related documents-

As of December 2015 Redfish containers were delivered to all of our schools!  Since that time we have been averaging collections of 15 tons a month!  The program includes classroom, office and especially kitchen related recyclables. Redfish Recycling sends us a report each month reflecting the tonnage collected by school. One ton equals to saving 11 trees...

This school year's data for September thru December 2016 is summarized in the graph below:

>>The linked report is in Excel format and includes monthly & cumulative totals- 2016-17 District Recycling Report thru December 2016

>>The elementary campus with the highest collections to date (Sep-Dec 2016) is Dora Romero with 8,700 lbs.  The middle school campus with the highest collections to date is Los Cuates and Liberty Memorial with 8,550 lbs each.

>>Redfish Recycling containers are picked up 3x a week, MWF.
