This is the image for the news article titled Student interns working for District MaintenanceFour Los Fresnos High School students who completed their first year of Construction Technology programs at Texas Southmost College are working as paid student interns with Los Fresnos CISD Maintenance crews.

Three of the four – Emmanuel Alvear, Gaspar Gracia and Carlos Medrano – are working with carpenter crews while Christian Gomez is working with Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) teams alongside district Maintenance staff.

They are paid from a grant through Workforce Solutions Cameron, the local workforce partnership organization devoted to promoting and supporting a workforce structure.

The four Construction Technology students attended classes and learned specialized trades through a dual enrollment partnership with TSC while earning dual credit in Construction Technology. Their wages are being provided through a grant from Workforce Solutions Cameron.

The goal of every school district is to prepare students for college or a career. Students in these trade programs are getting both.

"We are very fortunate to have partners such as Workforce Solutions Cameron and TSC who have helped us get our construction technology students opportunities," Director of Career and Technology Education Ronnie Rodriguez said.

"They are learning skills by attending classes at TSC and putting to use some of these skills in the workforce. It's a great way to expose our students to a career that may become their choice of employment after high school. We are extremely proud of all our industrial trades students who will continue to attend TSC while still a high school student. They are earning high school credit and dual credit and eventually earn an Industry Based Certification."
