Make it 17 straight! LFHS NJROTC competes at state

LFHS NJROTC competes at stateLos Fresnos High School will be among 16 units competing at the 25th Annual Navy Junior ROTC Area 10 Field Meet – also known as the Texas State Championship – Friday and Saturday at Texas A&M University in College Station.

Fifty students will compete to represent LFHS. The meet will host more than 600 students from 16 high school NJROTC units across the state for the chance to advance to the 2019 Navy JROTC Nationals which will be held at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. April 5-6.

The trip to state marks the 17th straight year that LFHS has qualified for state competition.

The event provides the opportunity for NJROTC cadets to visit Texas A&M and interact with the Corps of Cadets.

Over a two-day competition, the NJROTC units will be scored in 10 events testing their academic prowess, physical strength, and military bearing and precision.

The Falcon Company cadets has endured many hours of training, practice and travel with one goal in mind – qualifying for state again. The qualifying process began in September at a very fast pace and with many new team members.

Various drill meets attracted over 30+ JROTC units from all the military branches – Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force. The team endured long trips and countless hours on the road competing in Houston, San Antonio and Corpus Christi.

The Navy JROTC Falcon Company is under the direction of the following:

Staff Officers

  • Executive Officer: Lt. Commander Isabelle Arjona
  • Operations Officer: Lt. Commander Isaac Rosas
  • Command Master Chief: Master Chief Petty Officer Ricky Guajardo

  • Unarmed Drill: Lt. Commander Audrey Solis
  • Color Guard: Lt. Commander Isabelle Arjona and Petty Officer First Class Jose Martinez

Of the other 15 high schools that qualified through the drill meets, only San Benito is from the Rio Grande Valley.
