District welcomes 29 new teachers

This is the image for the news article titled District welcomes 29 new teachersTwenty-nine new teachers are taking part in the New Teacher Academy at Rancho Verde Elementary Library for three days this week.

Twenty teachers with 0-3 years' experience are underwent staff development Wednesday and Thursday to prepare them for experiences in classroom.

On Friday, Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar will welcome the 20 plus nine more with 4+ years' experience who are coming to Los Fresnos CISD after experiences in other school districts around the area, state and country. They will meet district principals and learn more about the district's history and mission

All of the new teachers are spending staff development time on the following topics:
  • Email safety and security
  • Professional Learning Management System
  • Work/Life Balance
  • Managing the Classroom Environment
  • Procedures, Rules and Consequences
  • Maintaining Positive Student Behavior
  • Discipline 101
  • Tango Lesson plans

The new teachers had several team-building activities.

Also present were seven new teacher candidates from the second cohort of UTRGV’s Student Teacher Education Preparation University Partnership (STEP UP) program. The partnership, which started with Los Fresnos CISD and other Valley districts last year, will open up more classrooms for teacher candidates to learn and work in a school culture. 

On Wednesday, August 7, all Los Fresnos CISD teachers report to their campuses. Classes begin Wednesday, August 14.
