Siblings: Paul, 30; Caroline, 29; Nick, 29; David, 28

Previous schools: Lopez-Riggins Elementary, Los Cuates Middle School (Sixth Grade), Liberty Memorial Middle School (Seventh and eighth grades)

College: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Major: Chemical Engineering

Inspiration for academic success: Ever since I was a very young, my family and teachers motivated me to do my best, not just in school, but in everything I do. I am especially grateful for the support that my teachers gave me because, without it I would not be where I am today. They encouraged me to pursue my passions and served as both role models and mentors throughout high school.

Study habits: I am quite the procrastinator. I believe that this habit has made me addicted to the sense of working under pressure, and my best work ends up coming out of it. Occasionally I study late at night, but
I try to vary my study habits to fine-tune my approach to studying.

Plans after college: I plan to commission in the U.S. Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer after my schooling is done. After that, I plan to get my Ph.D. and enter the private sector.

Career plans: Chemical engineering is an
incredibly diverse field, so it’s a little hard for me to choose an exact path. I’m very interested in pharmaceutical manufacturing and biofuel research, so I will probably enter one of those fields when I have completed my duties in the Navy.

Advice to younger students to succeed academically: I would recommend that every student should try to pursue their passions outside of school. Don't be afraid to explore! There's so much to do, and the experiences, memories, and bonds one can form will be carried with you for the rest of your life.
