Siblings: Emiret Martinez Aburta 17, Hannia Martinez 16, and Scarlet Martinez 14.

Previous schools attended: Lopez-Riggins Elementary, Laureles Elementary School and Liberty Memorial Middle School

College: Harvard University

Major: Theoretical physics

Inspiration for academic success: I set a goal to seek the highest form of education to later aid my family financially. Additionally, I wanted to work on solving the physical problems of the universe to better help mankind understand the reality we live in.

Study habits: If I don’t finish my work at school, I tend to stay up until 10 p.m. and wake up at about 3 a.m. to do the rest of my homework. This schedule works when I usually procrastinate all evening, but it allows me to catch up in the morning – if my alarm clock wakes me up.

Plans after college: Doctorate degree in theoretical physics.

Career plans: I plan to stay in the Boston area, become a professor and continue doing theoretical research on string theory or black holes. If that does not work out, I would like to work at the Large Hadron Collider in Europe.

Advice to younger students to succeed academically: Everyone goes through the same high school and the same available classes so the only real way to distinguish yourself from others and achieve greatness is to take the subjects seriously. You must realize that the way you take in the material you are learning will set you apart from the rest of the crowd.
