Posted on 02/15/2017
It's that time of year again – time for students to showcase the results of their hard work preparing their animals for the livestock show competition season.

The 37th Annual Cameron County Fair and Livestock Show begins its three-day run at the Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds Friday.

The Livestock Show is held in conjunction with the 28th Annual Los Fresnos PRCA Rodeo, which has shows scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It's the second of three shows for students in the Los Fresnos FFA program who have been preparing their animals for the spring show season. The big show is the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show in Mercedes March 10-19.

Students from several Los Fresnos CISD schools will be showing their livestock and other animals, while others have been working diligently on arts and crafts projects.

The shows provide opportunities for 4H and FFA members of Cameron County to display their animals and shop projects.

This year's livestock show entries includes rabbits, lambs, goats, hogs and cattle. The home show has 198 entries that include arts and crafts, photography, woodworking and welding. Exhibitors will have the opportunity to auction the shop projects Friday evening after the steer competition if they choose to do so.

The shop projects auction is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Friday and the baked goods competition will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday. Both auctions are free and open to the public.

Los Fresnos CISD students will be among Valley students showcasing beef cattle and lambs Friday morning, goats and market steers Friday afternoon, market hogs Saturday morning and rabbits on Sunday morning.
