LFHS seniors named National Hispanic Scholars

This is the image for the news article titled LFHS seniors named National Hispanic ScholarsSeven Los Fresnos High School seniors who earned the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program were recognized at the Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees meeting Monday.

The program recognizes high-performing students from across the country who have scored in the top 2.5% among Hispanic students taking the junior year administration of the PSAT. They also met the added requirement of holding at least a 3.5 GPA by the middle of their junior year.

Although the College Board does not award a monetary scholarship with this award, the distinction often leads to scholarship offers from universities.

Earning the recognition were (left to right):
  • Kevin Benavides (not pictured) plans to attend either The University of Texas San Antonio under the top scholar program or The University of Texas and plans to major in Genetics.
  • Catherine Maestro Goodrich plans to attend the Naval Academy and study Nuclear Physics.
  • Daisy Paredes plans to attend The University of Texas-San Antonio under the Top Scholar Program and major in Nursing.
  • Josephine Portier plans to attend Texas A&M University-Kingsville and study Mechanical Engineering.
  • Aaron Salazar plans to attend either The University of Texas at Austin or Texas A&M University and study Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
  • Ivan Salazar plans to attend either The University of North Texas or Sam Houston State University and study Computer Science.
  • Aaron Solis plans to attend Texas A&M University-Kingsville and study Music Education.
