It's the Super Bowl for academics for elementary schools in the Los Fresnos CISD, where more than 1,000 people will take over Los Fresnos High School on a Saturday morning.

Almost 500 students from the nine district elementary schools will participate in the Los Fresnos CISD Elementary Academic Event Saturday, Dec. 10 at LFHS.

The students from the nine elementary schools in Los Fresnos CISD will take part in 18 events, including Science, Mathematics, Number Sense, Creative Writing, Ready Writing, and Oral Reading in English and Spanish.

There are 486 students registered for the event, with an additional 85 listed as alternates.

There are also 162 coaches who are classroom teachers that have prepared students for this event since early in the school year.

In addition, there are about 100 judges and volunteers who will assist in making the event a success. The total does not include hundreds of parents who are also expected to attend.

For the last five EAE competitions, three schools have taken the top three places – Los Fresnos Elementary, Olmito Elementary and Villareal Elementary.

LFE won the 2015 event, and won the team trophy in 2012 and 2013. Olmito Elementary won the events in 2010 and 2014.

The awards presentation is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the LFHS Gymnasium.
