This is the image for the news article titled CTE on Tour: High School programs visit OESStudents at Olmito Elementary are getting a taste of high school this week as Los Fresnos High School CTE programs visit their campus.

The "CTE on Tour" visit to OES includes a different program each day. Students in third, fourth and fifth grade are getting the experience to help them plan their future.

"We wanted to to expose elementary students in the district of the great opportunities we have in Career and Technical education," CTE Director Ronnie Rodriguez said.

The schedule of visits during the week has been:
  • Monday: Audio/Video/Media Technology, third graders
  • Tuesday: Emergency Medical Technology, third graders.
  • Wednesday: Criminal Justice, fourth graders
  • Thursday: Animal Science fourth graders
  • Friday: Forensics, fifth graders
OES principal Linda Rodriguez approached Rodriguez in September about the possibility of bringing the CTE programs to her elementary school.

"Sometimes it's a little late when they get to us at the high school level, because they are not aware of what the high schools have to offer," Rodriguez said. "By exposing them at an early age, they can start planning and talk to their parents to find something they might be interested in when they get to high school."

The daily visits are in conjunction with the 21st Century Math Fair ongoing at Olmito Elementary.
